Our Story

Hellbender Outdoors was birthed from a lifelong passion for watersports. Dan Meyers, Founder, has been bursting for decades to bring his creations to life.
Dan was introduced to paddling at the age of 4, and entered his first whitewater canoe race at the age of 7. He continued his competitive pursuits throughout the 80’s, winning numerous regional and national titles, and represented the United States in several World Championships as a member of the U.S. National Team. In 1985, He began working for the Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC), a recognized world leader in outdoor recreation and adventure, spending a total of 12 seasons working as a whitewater raft guide and canoe instructor. Although life had led Dan away from competing for many years, he has found his way back to the racing scene through his love of water sports and the pursuit of creating the ideal race boat.
